The first maintenance release for 5.5 is available through the known distribution forms. See the addressed issues on the OpenWGA issue tracker.

There is no maintenance release for 5.0 this time because no issues were reported for this release stream in the past month.

We said we would release in the first days of December, so here finally we do in the first ... half of it. Anyway, OpenWGA 5.5 plus OpenWGA Developer Studio 1.5 is now out and we are looking forward to see both in action at our customers. Get them from the downloads.

Arguably the biggest thing in 5.5 is the Basic Website Kit, giving everyone the ability to create OpenWGA websites without building them from scratch. We have put together a little tutorial about how to get started with this.

Of course we also have updated the general documentation for 5.5, including a minimal upgrade guide at which you might want to throw a glance before updating.

Oh yes, and as you may have also noticed by now: Our website now looks a bit different. Less blue, less clutter. We like it and hope you will too. But the main structure and contents of the site mainly stayed the same, so the known resources should still be found at the known places.

OpenWGA 5.4 is about 2 and a half months old, so it's about time we talk about the next feature release that is coming up.

Unfortunately - at least for OpenWGA development - we had our share of busy times across the last months so we weren't able to progress in features as fast as we would have wanted to. Because of this we will have to break our usual 3-months-schedule for feature releases this time and add an extra month. We therefor plan to release OpenWGA 5.5 in the first days of December 2011.

However, we again have some very exciting things cooking for this release. So let's have a sneak peak at them.

Two things are to be noted about the 5.4.3 update:

• It introduces the metadata field PAGEPUBLISHED (the date where the first version of a content was published) into the lucene fulltext index, allowing to query and - maybe more important - sort by it. However to benefit from this you need to rebuild the complete lucene index once after update (OpenWGA Admin Client > Menu "Runtime" >  Menu item "Status" > Button "Rebuild lucene index").
  
• It resolves a compatibility issue with Java Runtimes of the new version 7. We therefor now regard the usage of Java 7 with OpenWGA 5.4 as "safe".

This week we released version 2.3 of our OpenWGA Enterprise Blog plugin, retrievable via the Download Page or - preferrably - the OpenWGA 5.4 Plugin Store that is integrated to the admin client. This version has quite a number of exciting features including the ability to import Wordpress blogs, a dedicated content module to display blog postings in other applications and support for Gravatar Images on Comments.

The most important part of it however is that it is our first OpenWGA application that is customizable by design, using a new OpenWGA 5.4 feature called "design overlays". Lets have a look at what this means and how this makes it easy for you to develop your own flavor of blog design while still using our predefined functionalities.
